With Fall starting soon, I wanted to do something for my boyfriend and I. A few months ago, I planned a surprise movie night for us and my boyfriend seemed to really enjoy it (even though I fell asleep during the movie). I thought to have a surprise date night again for us would be fun!
I was house sitting for my aunt so I started planning what I will surprise him with. Last year, we made chili together, so I knew I wanted to make chili with him again. However, I wanted to do something more than just make and eat dinner. So, I went to Pinterest to find some ideas. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything that I really liked. I started picturing how the night will go. I wanted him to come in and be surprised with everything. He already knows we are making chili and cinnamon rolls, but that is all. After I got some sort of a plan, I started getting things for the night.
First, I went to Target to get most of the ingredients for the chili. We have made this chili before and it was delicious and super easy to make. I mean, look at the ingredients…
I also printed out a recipe sheet so we could follow along on paper. I wanted it to be a night that was just us and focusing on each other. I was clever and titled it “Netflix and Chili?”
I love cooking with my boyfriend, so this was a perfect start to our night. While this was one of two main “events,” I wanted him to see the table first. I got him a new pair of sweatpants and a pack of socks. I know those sound like lame gifts, but I feel bad for taking his sweatpants, and he said he needed more socks, so why not? I also wrote him a note. I like to write him one every so often so it is something sweet to get but its not a norm to receive one.
I also got some hot chocolate mixes and we were going to watch a movie, but we ended up just talking instead and were too tired/full to make the hot chocolate. It has already been a cold, rainy fall, so I’m sure we will have a hot chocolate night soon.
In addition to hot chocolates not being used, we did not make cookies like I had planned either. My boyfriend got off work late so we were pushed back an hour, but it was still a fun night with him. Just like the chili, I also made a cute recipe sheet for the chocolate chip cookies.
I had everything set up and started waiting for my boyfriend to get off of work. He texted me saying he might have to stay late so I offered to start the chili so he could eat right when he gets home. Luckily he wanted to make chili with me so we could still cook together.
He didn’t actually tell me when he was on his way over he just showed up, but he brought me a bouquet of roses. We started making chili almost immediately since he was hungry. We also popped the cinnamon rolls in the over towards the end. I had the table already set so when everything was done all we had to do was eat!
During dinner we asked and answered questions I printed off. Some of the questions from the page I deleted and added some of my own if they didn’t really fit us. This was a fun way to either start a new conversation or bring up old memories. Pretty much all of our answers had us both laughing.
After dinner, we cleaned up and he opened his presents from me. I don’t think he was expecting any presents so I was happy I was able to surprise him. We spent the rest of the night just hanging out and talking. Overall, I think this was the perfect way for us to celebrate fall and each other.
